Con(text)ual

Tendernode150/150

Con(text)ual is a generative painting made from ASCII characters confined into shapes. Shapes are randomly drawn onto the canvas, then filled with individual characters from a character array. The density of characters is dependent upon the size of the shape, creating some transparencies and an organic feel to each shape.

I've long been interested in typography as an artform and this is an extension of my typography explorations.

There are a total of 10 color pallets. The number of shapes on each canvas varies from 3 to 9. The edition size was chosen based on the code, which lends itself well to a wide array of potential outcomes. Please get in touch with me if you want a larger resolution size for printing.

I hope you enjoy the art!
