This artwork is about taking risks, courage and safety. Tending to high-risk behavior, jumping on and off concrete blocks is natural for me. We would do it all summer long on the campus of the University of Bochum in Germany. I felt completely safe, not least because my father worked in his lab a few minutes away. Jumping and almost flying high through air doesn't come naturally to many. There is insecurity in having both feet off the ground, like falling in a dream, or hanging in midair. I craved this moment of zero gravity at the peak of the jump, the closest to flying I could get.
I photographed the concrete blocks with an iPhone, drew the characters digitally by hand and made the background with p5.js
