The Araucaria Araucana, also known as pewén, is a sacred tree for the Mapuche and an emblem of Chile. With an origin dating back 260 million years to the Triassic period, it is part of the oldest forests on the planet. These ancient trees are endangered due to logging, forest fires, and grazing.
ARAUCO is a tribute to araucarias and Mapuche iconography. Incorporating elements such as the Kultrung, the Wünelfe star, and the staggered cross Ngümin, the work displays a typical landscape of southern Chile with the Andes Mountains in the background and the native forest.
