Cave Etchings

Matthew Plummer-Fernandez200/200

Cave Etchings are detailed line drawings generated from unedited AI images of caves, conjoining an AI process with a generative art process. The project is not just an exercise in aesthetics, it is about seeing things the way a computer 'sees'. The original AI cave series focused on how AI Computer Vision can imagine fantastical caves; in cave etchings, the software visualises pixel data as movement, rotating lines according to hue, saturation, and brightness values. The project is inspired by the artwork of Franklin Booth (1874- 1948).
