a necessary reaction

This piece has an interesting (to me) history. I originally started by trying to clone my IRL physical painting style in Midjourney. I got very close, then I had the idea to make a generative piece that could recreate the Midjourney recreation of my physical paintings.

As is the nature of things, this result has departed quite a bit from my original intentions. You can scroll through the last two weeks of my Twitter feed to follow the entire process and see the original source. During the course of this writing process, crypto crashed, and the piece got darker and darker.

There are certain combinations which will result on a matte black on matte black image (that I've taken to calling "carbon mode." A mint is in carbon mode when both palettes are 1, with a gesture on top. This is definitely the darkest mint I've done for FxHash, or even in general, and matches my mood as I watch my net worth drill to the core of the Earth. I am, however, an optimist, and I fully expect to look back on this month and laugh. Hopefully in the not-too-distant future.
