The Light of Summer

Description of Seasons of Siskiyou Series
Surrounding my home, covering more than one million acres, is the Rogue River - Siskiyou National Forest which takes up three southern Oregon counties and one northern California county. It’s a magical place that fills the imagination and lifts the spirit; a place that inspires with its uniqueness, its legends, and its larger-than-life vistas.

Each season in the Siskiyou mountains is a unique experience unto itself. So, with an attention to the feelings this place evokes at any given time of the year, I designed four generative tokens to create an impression of the emotion–the calming quietness; the peaceful solitude; the overwhelming contrasts and variety of forms, shapes and textures; the magic and playful mystery; the welcomingness and foreboding. These four works feature clever and inventive creative coding techniques in a rich, graphic style to craft a stunning impression of the Seasons of Siskiyou.

Token 2 of 4 - THE LIGHT OF SUMMER (1990 x 1080) p5js Generative Token.
After weeks of a lengthening day, the color of spring gives way to the light of summer. The air glows with the warmth of an apex sun; the coolness of the shadows welcomes tiny denizens; golden hues of drying flora frame the brilliance of lingering blooms. Magic sails in solar breezes lazily drifting along with the whims of daylight. Hike along remote trails, lose yourself in the unique beauty, and be immersed in the Light of Summer.

Output and Coding Features of “The Light of Summer”:

The Light of Summer features a variety of recursive algorithms to generate a range of plant forms. The flowers are created with skewable vectored-ellipses to provide depth. The output is generated by layering various generative systems using a one-point perspective. An optical effect is applied to create atmosphere and accent-textures. A radial gradient sets the background and frames the scene with a sense of atmosphere and humidity.

Each iteration varies the color palette, shape and density of the vegetation, the position and density of flowers and the optical-effect texture.
